I have been a science educator for 13 years and have taught in Arizona and Indiana. I currently teach Earth Science and Astronomy at Bremen High School. I have been a QuarkNet teacher for the past five years, and I currently serve as the QuarkNet Research Teacher where my tasks include management of our student research groups. In astronomy, I have been an amateur observer since the mid 1980s. I have many years of experience with public outreach in astronomy and have worked with various astronomical societys in Arizona and Indiana. In 2008, I participated in the Project CLEA workshop held at Gettysburg College. In 1994, I obtained my bachelor of science degree in geology from Purdue University. I am a husband and father with three children, and we live in New Carlisle.

I am honored to have been invited to participate in the Our Place Workshop. I think that the Our Place philosophy of combining student-oriented projects with local environmental concerns can provide a unique educational experience for kids. My main concern is that the current emphasis upon mandatory standards and rote learning will provide severe impediments to the Our Place approach.

I maintain a personal Wiki at www.scopegeek.com. Thanks.
